The History of Nike
The brand was founded in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. The original name for the company was Blue Ribbon Sports, and they started out as a distributor for a Japanese shoe manufacturer. Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS) started by selling shoes at track meets out of Knight's car, which helped the brand become more recognisable.
They later cut ties with the supplier due to the brand focusing on creating their own shoes. Bowerman started experimenting with his wife’s waffle iron to try and create a new sole for track shoes. He wanted it to have major traction and be lightweight to increase the runner's speed. This project led to the waffle trainer.
The company later rebranded to Nike and changed their logo to the iconic swoosh, which is instantly recognizable. Nike continues to dominate in the streetwear and sports world by constantly creating new shoes and clothes to this day!
