The brand was founded in 1911 by the Fila brothers, Ettore and Giansevero. The pair started out producing quality clothing and underwear for their local community . However, in 1970, their company shifted focus to sportswear, looking to blend style with performance. One of their first collections was their groundbreaking tennis apparel line, which introduced bold colours (red, white, and navy), different from the all-white attire.
Later on, in the ’80s and ’90s , FILA exploded in popularity, taking over the tennis courts and becoming a staple in hip-hop and urban culture. Music artists such as LL Cool J and Tupac Shakur were often seen repping this brand’s clothes and sneakers, further elevating FILA’s popularity.
